WHERE'S THIS SOUL BROTHA' GETTING THIS SEOUL INFORMATION?

POP AND DROP FRESH DOUGH!!!!

The artist Joo Suc! The song:"Pop and Drop"! First of all, this song is a "FLUFF"! (A song that is downright slammin' and great to dance to ). And the vid is just INCREDIBLE!  Though most Korean vids are creative, futuristic looking. Well there are more adjectives I could use, but I guess the only thing I can say that can compliment this vid is "Old Schoolin'"! Which is a lil' bit of "Old School" with an asian flair.  It has a "HOOK", and a groove that makes you shake yo' ass a little bit more than usual. I love giving terminologies to things. It helps me be a bit more creative and hopefully doesn't confuse the hell out of anyone. But in my mind, terms give validity to something. It means you care enough to give something a term of "endearment". I was discussing this vid with my Bud Jon from the video store and I had come to the conclusion that not only was this a good video. It was a "Black Video" with no black people! Explanation please! Look at the vid. You see "Big Bosoms" (yes. I want to say "titties" it has more impact). You see"Big Booties".( You know I want to say "asses"! It has more impact)Unfortunately our society somehow gives "bad words" more impact. But then again that's just an opinion. It depends on where you were raised or what you were taught. But that's another topic.Another thought. Another discussion!
Yes. The video makes women "sex objects". Yes. It also makes men "sex objects".  But then again " I don't object to sex"!  .LOL.  Like I said before. Another topic. Another thought. Another discussion.

All I can say is: THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE VID! I can only compare this to the movie "A Time To Kill".  In that movie Samuel L. Jackson plays a black man on trial for killing two white men that raped and brutalized his daughter. At the end of the trial a speech is given in detail about the brutality of the crime. The summation is left with the jurors with the closing statement: "Think of that little girl". Now think of her as "being white".!
I close by saying: Look at his video. And think of everybody as"being black"!
The asian people have tapped into the black vibe and taken it to new heights with their own "Flava'"!I applaud them. Bow to them.

TO STEREOTYPE OR NOT TO STEREOTYPE. THAT IS THE QUESTION.

YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE THE "WONG" IMPRESSION!

Can't we all just get along? That won't be the first nor the last time we will hear that phrase.  Here I am tackling what I feel about race and stereotypes. First of all. I'm facing my own little boycott from some  of my own people because of my interest in the asian culture. I hear some of my "peeps" talk about how that when they were growing up there were no role models. No blacks to emulate. No model to be fashioned after. Well for me. I was a part of that same time. And I was watching the same tv shows. And living what I called a somewhat normal life. But I wasn't seeing these things not because I was stupid or naive. It was because I was raised to not see a difference. Now whether that is a  good thing or bad thing is up for debate. Believe me. I've had some heated conversations throughout the years. Some made me feel good. And some really bad.
Now how can I relate this back to the asian culture? Stereotypes! "All asian's are doctors" "Asians  can't drive worth s**t! These could go hand in hand with "All black people love watermelon" "Black people  can't talk properly"  "What you talkin' bout' Willis?"And the ever so famous "White people can't dance". Okay. Let's have an open mind here. Asians may be doctor's because they are taught at an early age to take care of themselves and their elderly parents once they are no longer able to take care of themselves.  Black people do the same thing. Except our stereotype is to be a basketball player, something in sports. or a rapper. For latin people for some reason they expect all of them to be able to do great lawn work.
Call me crazy, but I do think that there are some really good black doctors taking care of their parents and their grandparents in a grand old fashion.  Just like I'm sure I'm seeing even on this blog some wonderful asian rap artists and even R & B singers that are perceived as very successful.  And I'm positive there are some latino CEO's that have never touched a lawnmower. As far as the driving. Well...I've seen some black people and other folks with a car wrapped around a telephone pole! Not an asian in sight.I don't feel the need to really go on. But I will give one last stereotype a "Kick  in the ass" so we can move on with open minds and a non judgemental heart! Black men have huge D***s! And asian men have small d***s! Well let's just say that somewhere in the world a black man is in bed with a women and  she's laying there saying "Is it in yet"? Whereas in another part of town an asian man has pulled down his pants and a woman has squealed "Damn Daddy! You BIG!.
And to top it off, I'm sure there's some white guy dancin' his ass off because he finds this all so funny!
In fairy tales we start off with "once upon a time" and end with "happily ever after". In real life the story usually ends with "The end".  Let's open our eyes. Put these together. And " happily " put all this to an  "end." "

And by the way! "I LOVE ME SOME WATERMELON! "

TAEYANG YOU VERY MUCH!!!

I I feel like I'm starting over again. New thoughts. New feelings. New dreams! I've been reading other blogs and even reading some things on Facebook. I've come to the conclusion, that even though I like to share certain things, I'm just not a tell all kindah' guy. No one needs !to know all my business. And I don't need to know everyone else's. If I do tell stories I feel the need to change names because I think it's rude to discuss things withtout the other parties permission.. Just like signing a Model Release LOL.Silly me. That's the way I feel. But Never say never. As long as it doesn't explode, then it's usually ok. lol

So back to my priorities of commenting on the Korean culture, and hoping that my dialog can bring me closer to them, and them to me.Now i'm not being a hypocrite but if I do use a name it will only be in a positive light and never from a negative or rude perspective. This would only be necessary because the korean presence I feel must be acknowledged for the kindness and knowledge bestowed upon me.

In previous blogs I had discussed a young asian guy by the name of Tae Yang. I called him A Chin Chin N***A! And for good cause. I had an eye on him and now with his solo cd he has proved me RIGHT! His new vid showcases his sexual swagger and mellow soulful vocals. He has made the choice of downplaying his remarkable dance skills and going for the sexy, smoldering persona. All in all. His choices are correct in all counts!

Tae Yang's new mini album is a wonderful feat in soulful asian recording. The vid for "I Need A Girl" is classic in that fact that it chronicles growth. In "Wedding Dress" he had started shifting away from the baseball caps and classic hip hop look to present us with a somewhat more polished look! No disrespect to that look. I still love a great baseball cap. And I still love the vid "Where U At?". Tae Yang has a swagger that ignites conversation  and admiration! In "I Need A Girl" Mr. Yang doesn't give us his usual serious hot boiling performance. He has now given us a slow sexual simmer, with a boil to come later. Yet through all of this the one constant is what I consider Taeyang's most valuable attribute: HIS SMILE!! Blindingly adorable.
THAT SMILE IS INCREDIBLE!!

There will be more of Taeyang to follow. You can't stop at one blog. A few paragraphs. He warrants constant updates!!
STARTING FROM HIP HOP MOVING TO POLISHED!

***Special note: In the dance version of "I Need A Girl" Taeyang has his Big Bang Bud G-Dragon guest rapping. G- Dragon was featured in the "Swigswag" section. He's changed his look back to that of masculine.Either way, G-Dragon is a serious talent!

NOTHING BUT BEAUTY IN THIS BEAST!!

03/11/2010

Watch out people. There's a new group in town and their name is BEAST!!! A new 6 member boy group. Sexy and hot!! Imagine the choreography of an old "Jackson Five " song combined with a charisma that rivals Spanky and The Little Rascals. Alfalfa and all. These guys starting off the vid in all white, command your attention from the "get go"! And there's no turning back. The tune is upbeat, catchy and has a great hook!! A special touch to me is the charisma of each member. There is never a wasted Close up. No matter when the camera hits them they are always engaging! Choreography is top notch and fun. Never boring. Only one criticism. And minor at that. But I really am having trouble with the beekeeper couture look at the end of the vid. Just my own little "ism". That aside. The song may be about Bad Girls, But these guys are seriously being Bad boys! And I mean Bad in the utmost highest regard! The Swagger here was in full Swing! Serious Kudos amd Kimchi!!

BACK TO BASICS!!!

Well the time has finally come when the perfect sexy, hot vid, has finally come from the artist RAIN! Now I've put up some of his vids before and let my thoughts be known that he is one incredible talent. He has a new cd coming out after a long hiatus. RAIN is considered in the asian community to be a serious powerhouse of an entertainer!! Now RAIN has been around for quite some time and the his status isn't as pronounced here in the States. CAA the entertainment agency has signed him and had some really big plans for him. As far as a movie career, he had a small part in the less then famous "Speed Racer" No. It wasn't aa great movie, but it opened some doors for RAIN. At the time his english was very limited and he learned his part phonetically. From watching the film you wouldn't know this. He handled the limited dialogue like a pro. But for me that wasn't the important factor here. Even though it was a bad film. I was focused on his presence and charisma! And he has that in spades. He's a chiseled, sleek character, with a tinge of devil. Too bad that wasn't enough to bring people to the theater, but it did open a door for him to meet a wonderful director who had faith in his and felt he could carry a film all by himself. I think he can carry a film. I just don't think NINJA ASSASSIN was it!! He worked really hard on his body. Not that he was ever out of shape. And I mean EVER!

Rain is one of those rare entertainers that defies belief. He's not known in the United States, but I bet it's not due to talent. Even though a film career is inevitable, at this point in his career if he wants to make it here I think my dream partnership for him would be a duet with Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, hook up with Timbaland and I think he would be a singing fit with Nelly Furtado! Rain has a swagger about himself that emanates poise and magnificence! He gives you SERIOUS DANCE and he makes it look so easy, yet it's sensual, entertaining and it's hard to take your eyes off of him even if you chose to.
Below is the video that I think would make him a star in the states if it were released on MTV!! Even though you can't understand a single word he saying, it doesn't matter He's just WEARIN' IT OUT!!!!!

I also want people to know that not only does RAIN sound good recorded, he also gives live performances that other artists and wannabe singers would greatly appreciate. His is a lesson in discipline, dedication and practice. When you see his performances they are events. I've been checking out older performances and watched with a keen eye. He's blossomed from a young boy to a fiercely talented man. I have to give my own insights though. In earlier work I have seen him with female dancers to enhance his sex appeal. But as a man he seems to just have male dancers with him. No. I won't comment on his sexuality because that's not my business. But I will give this opinion. I see in videos that he may have a female presence at the beginning just to establish a hint of a relationship. But later on it will just be all males doing serious, flawless choreography. My reasoning is that he doesn't want the audience to be distracted by a female presence. He just wants to be RAIN. RAIN. And only Rain. And I ain't mad at him.

I also have to give "props" to his dancers. He seems to be loyal to them because there is one dancer that I always see with this beautiful long hair. Whether it be ponytails to the side or hair just whipping around wildly, he keeps up with RAIN and adds his own bit of pizazz!

IF PEOPLE SAY YOU'RE "TOO BIG FOR THE ROOM". THEN FIND A BIGGER ROOM. OR YOU COULD JUST MAKE BETTER USE OF THE SPACE!!

STRONG RAIN WITH SERIOUS PITTERPAT TO FOLLOW!!

04/09/2010

NOT HEAVY RAIN, BUT A PITTER PAT WAITING TO ERUPT!!

I stumbled upon this little gem purely by accident. I caught the tail end of this vid at the end of one of my Korean entertainment shows, and I patiently waited for the name to come on screen. Well.... silly me saw the name and it has so many syllables at the time that I didn't catch it. Now when this happens I get frustrated because I'm left with a talent with no name. To make a long story short, the long name was attached to a shorter name, aptly nicknamed "AJ". I plan to do more research on him, but at this moment he is a dynamic youngster with a fierce dance persona. In this video is the wonderful Hyun-ah who has the ghettocentric dance tune "CHANGE"! But back to AJ he is one of those people that dances and you have a smile and your face and you're doing the motions or trying to do the motions in your head. No matter what your expertise, the desire to dance with him is there. I'm giving him a great compliment here, and hopefully I'm not giving this honor prematurely. But AJ reminds me of a young RAIN. He doesn't have the preciseness of RAIN, but he has a playful, choreographed "get go" that delivers. Of course I have to give him a nickname. Since he's not RAIN per se, but has RAIN'S essence I would have to call him something that gives him respect yet ties him to RAIN. He's not raining but he is at this point a "LIL' PITTERPAT"!!

GIVING MY GIRL "ALLURE" A FACE!!!!

NO WONDERING ABOUT THE WONDER GIRLS!!

Okay! I just absolutely love this vid by the Wonder Girls! The song is produced by the incredible Park Jin Young. He is mainly known for being the man that discovered and mentored the star RAIN. The beginning of the vid starts with the tag "JYP" just like Rodney Jerkins would always scream "Dark Child" on all his produced songs Even though for the longest I thought he was saying "Dog Chow". Another story . Another day. Anyway again we see the korean culture borrowing and paying homage to the black influence that is uniquely ours. They've taken their scenario from Dreamgirls. with a few different quirks. But believe me. You see the Supremes or rather Dreams factor and Mr. James Thunder Early played by Park Jin Young. This vid is a gem. And these girls are sexy!!

An interesting fact about "THE WONDERGIRLS". I've heard their song in korean and loved it. But just recently they performed on "THE WENDY WILLIAMS SHOW" and sang "NOBODY" in english they were professional, polished and cute as hell!!! Congrats to a wonderful U.S. They've also been signed to open for "THE JONAS BROTHERS"!! You better go girls! Do it up! Keep it tight!

"I BELIEVED ROLLER DERBY WAS REAL"! "REALLY"!

Okay. Here's some of the personal stuff I promised to break up the "Asian Fever". This was awhile back and I REALLY thought that skating was just like riding a bike. Though I look charming, happy and skilled, please don't let this pic deceive you 10 minutes later Daddy was on the Floor!! KA BOOM!!!But what the hell!~ I look kindah' cute in the pic. Oh happy days!

THE PAGE OF ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"It's alright to be a light in the room. Just don't blind nobody!!!"

I'm dedicating this page to a talented young man that not only wants to entertain, but also chooses to attend college and be his own special kind of somebody!! He's done one major production so far and God willing he will do more. He's a great guy and I hope that I've shown him that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! He's a young man who has found GOD and himself. How can you go wrong with that combination?
I hope that everyone will actively go out and seek a  G.I.G.   "GOD IS GOOD"!
With GOD in his life I know that he will continue to soar and grow. At one point I thought he wasn't paying attention but he surprised and delighted me by liking this ol' man's taste in music. Creativity gravitates to creativity so therefore why would he not love this new group that was presented to him. BROWN EYED SOUL:  The group members are Naul Yoo, Hun Seong, Yeong Jun Ko and Jeong Yeop Ahn.
Lead vocalist Naul came up with the concept of the group. The group vocals are unique in expressing the spiritual aspect of soul Music After their 1st album Naul went solo with NAUL - BACK TO THE SOUL FLIGHT. (I need to find this. His voice is INCREDIBLE)I need to find out why he didn't stay solo, but he brought the group back together in 2007 for their 2nd album.

The song is called "My Story". An incredible live performance of creativity and raw emotion. All have beautiful voices in their own right. But the vocals from Naul on this selection just touched my soul. The song My Story is dedicated to my friend. I find it fitting since he is living his story as I type.
Stay strong. Book a GIG always!!

THE BESTEST GRAMMY'S EVER!!

02/01/2010

THIS YEAR'S GRAMMY'S WERE THE BESTEST EVER!!!!

Warning: I had all the vids from the Grammys, but due to violation and copyrights, they were all disabled.

I will be posting "Stills".

Okay! All I can say is that this year's Grammy's were the best I have ever seen. Lady Gaga started off the gala with a rousing solo. Introduced in the manner of a Queen meeting her people. The next chapter was something that was "just amazing". It involved a touch of new school "Lady Gaga" and old school "Elton John" The musical classmates shared their musical crayons very well and didn't fight. She drew outside the lines. He stayed inet the musical picture was unique and absolutely stunning. "I hope you don't mind" . No. we didn't

The next performance was the beautiful BEYONCE!!Beyonce gave us "Gladiator Goddess". When she grabbed her crotch and her voice rang out, believe me. I felt it. "If I were a boy". Baby. You rock as a girl! You don't ever need to change. MZ. Jay -Z gave us a "HOT FULL PACKAGE SEXY PERFORMANCE"!!!

Now this is one of my favorite moments in Grammy history. PINK was ENTHRALLING in a beautiful gown of white sparkle, and heavenly splatter. Her dress matched her voice. And even though her dress had a hoodie she had no need to hide, cover or show shade. As the gown fell to the floor the singer took flight to dramatic heights, both voice and body. The voice stayed intact through the flight and aerial manuevers. For me. Pink is the "Flying Esther Williams for the Millineum"!!
This is just a semi-critique since I am transferring my blog from another site. Thank you for your patience.
THE GRAMMY'S WERE SLAMMIN'!!

" A LIL' THING CALLED "CITRUS SOUL"!

01/31/2010

MY TYPE OF "CITRUS SOUL"!!!

Today is a very EXCITING DAY!! The Grammy's have arrived! The red carpet event on "E" entertainment was really exciting. The fashions were beautiful. The stars were shining. But the best part of this week was being invited to an ESSENCE party that was honoring MARY J. BLIGE. After I watch the telecast I will give some more insights but right now I have to get back to the focus of my blog. I've come to the conclusion that even though I do love korean pop, I still have to give a nod to other genres. BUT my focus will remain on my key topic. One of the fascinating things that I have really been tripping on is the fact that if I start a conversation with someone about korean music.....well let me take that back. I do think that in the right crowd the discussion of the korean music genre can be very interesting. Just as interesting as Latin, Indian or other types of music. But believe me. Just like in comedy. You have to know your audience. You just can't bring up something like that abruptly. There are the people who are open to new things and then there are those who aren't. You can bring up a new topic to me. But then again I'm not like everyone else. What else is new? I'm getting off target now. The thing that I hear most people blurt out is when I bring up the topic is: How can you listen to that stuff? Do you even understand what they're saying? And some people even say, How can you listen to that S***? For some reason it really doesn't bother me. If you're not interested then you're not interested. I feel a charge of creative juices when I discover something new and exciting. No. I don't understand what they're saying. But do I feel something? Yes. Sometimes I can just hear a melody that is so beautiful, that I actually get shivers in my body. And I just feel something in my soul. I can't describe the feeling I get. I'm a sucker for a good ballad. I have no shame. I can honestly say that I'm put in a creative transfixed trance. And if I hear a great uptempo tune I will sometimes feel such a joy in my heart. It's just like when you watch a movie and the orchestra swells at that one triumphant moment in the film where the director manipulates you into saying in your head and heart "YEH"!!! I will give you 2 examples of that right now. The first song is by the group or artist S#ARP. The song is called "LIPS LIKE WARM LIKE COFFEE". I call this song "citrus soul". This song is sweet and soulful with a tangy flavor! The female lead's voice is that of an angel. She's beautiful and holds your full attention throughout the vid. The male rap in the background adds a beautiful soft dynamic and in no way intrudes on the beautiful melody. This song has found that balance successfully. The song and production is truly impressive. A simple storyline, beautiful visuals of of love and longing make this a complete and expressive vid. And I have to give a shoutout to the beautiful asian male. Do you honestly think that the shirt off and the wind softly blowing his hair was an accident? Think again!

A HOT GLANCE AT RAIN FROM A FAN'S PERSPECTIVE!!

THERE'S A DOWNPOUR IN TOWN. AND HIS NAME IS RAIN!!

Reblog (0)

01/24/2010

THE BEGINNING OF A DOWNPOUR!!

I felt the need to add a "teaser" to the mix. This Asian superstar is so HOT that I will give a great synopsis of his career in the coming days. But for right now, just enjoy the talented and charismatic presence that is "RAIN"!!! What amazes me about him is that he has the presence of a superstaar and the dance moves to add credibility to the title. His moves are swift, sharp and crisp! The magical part of him is that he not only has a Michael Jackson feel. But he also gives you Janet and J.Lo yet he never loses any of his masculinity. This is a great feat. You may have other singers that can give you a tune. But Rain gives you a total package! Presence, pizaaz. and perfection! Some have compared "RAIN" to the King of pop Michael Jackson!Well Mr. Jackson may be the King, but to some RAIN is the Emperor!!
In this case you can ignore Barbra: Rain on my parade!!

G-DRAGON - BUTTERFLY

THE SWIGSWAG OF THE ASIAN ARTIST - MALE OR FEMALE?

I find it fascinating the aspects of sexuality in the asian culture. I call this "SWIGSWAG". When a male or female acts the opposite of their supposed sex. I feel there is a creative freedom in their culture that defies definition.I will be checking out more artists and giving out more defined opinions. As I said before I really thought G-Drragon was a girl. I had no clue that this was the same young man from Big Bang. And I'm not being rude in any way, shape or form. How can I? Afterall......Whoooooooooooooooooo!! We had "Little Richard"! Holla'!!

IT'S NOT PUFF THE MAGIC, IT'S G-DRAGON!!

01/12/2010

Today's artist is the wonderful "G-DRAGON"! This artist is especially wonderful to me because of his growth and versatility. Due to my lack of knowledge I at first thought G-Dragon was a girl when I first saw the "Heartbreaker" video. It looked like "Gwen Stefani meets Madonna to go out to dinner with Lady Gaga". I owe G-Dragon an apology. G-Dragon has aptly earned the title of talented "Chin Chin Negro". For those of you who missed the definition in an earlier blog. A "Chin Chin Negro" is an asian performer who has the soul of a brotha'. The term is really "Chin Chin N***A. But we have to be politically correct. And believe me this is a definite term of endearment and honor given with the utmost professional

respect! This title is not given lightly. This also applies to his bandmate Tae-Yang from "BIG BANG". The talent in that group is endless.

The three songs that seriously turned my head: BREATHE, BUTTERFLY, BOY!! and Breathe is a catchy tune that captures with bright colors and good energy. He has a serious infectious swagger! And his fashion choices are savvy and grab your attention! They may be a bit off to some, but I think his goal is not to shock but the be couture current. To step out of the box. Big Bang is hip current where as his solo work is Stylish hippy current. He is confident in who he is and that's attractive on any performer. The other two tunes that I enjoy are " Butterfly" and "Boy" "Butterfly is a feelgood vid that combines animation and real life. Him and the director have created a beautiful world filled with images of love and fulfillment! There's a little Tim Burton and Johnny Depp feel to it but that's okay. It's beautifully realized. Now for the cool vid "BOY". Okay. Great concept. Visually captured to explore the senses. Don't hate me G-Dragon but I am feeling some Eminem here, but you embrace it and make it your own.

An interesting chat I had with a korean fan was very interesting. He asked me if I had resentment because his people were stealing from blacks and the United States. My response to this was that I wanted him to relanguage what he had said. I don't consider it stealing. In fact it's flattering. Let's call it borrowing or enhancing. 50 cents samples and borrows. Diddy does the same. A lot of artists do this. My analogy is that of cooking. If the recipe involves using salt... well....sometimes instead of salt I'll add Lawry's. It's the same meal but just with a different Flava'! IT STILL TASTES GOOD!!!!!

G-DRAGON I ain't mad at you. Work the blonde hair! Work the choreography! Work the rap! Just keep WORKIN' IT OUT!!!

I give G-DRAGON * * * * * 5 stars!!! KIMCHI AND KUDOS!!!

ONE OF THE FINEST WOMEN IN KOREAN MUSIC - GO GO HIYORI!!

01/11/2010

One of the best things I have found out from this new Korean trip I'm taking is that it has opened me up even more (if that's possible) and helped me to open up a new dialogue. I was never really afraid to speak to people but now I find myself approaching more asian people and striking up a conversation. The coolest thing is when you ask politely "What is your cultural background?" You never just assume that someone asian looking is Korean. That's like someone asking all black person if they know Sidney Poitier. That's just rude and ignorant. But when you ask in a polite manner and they do turn out to be Korean then as soon as you bring up their music and you share your love for their culture....well they just get really talkative and bright. They just can't believe it!! Today at my video store I approached a korean girl and we dicussed korean pop videos for quite awhile. She was in absolute awe that I knew so much. We talked about 2PM, SUPERJUNIOR, HIYORI LEE and several others. Her exact words were "I have never known an african american to know so much about korean music or our culture". "I have to call my sister and tell her". That was one of several wonderful transactions I've had with people. I've had some koreans actually take the time to make me mix cd's of their music. I don't even ask. They just offer them to me. And believe me. I am grateful and thrilled. It's just cool. Now don't think I'm turning my back on my own people. That's not the case at all. But I refuse to be limited and stuck in a box. Thinking there's only one way to love, or do, or be. This is nothing new to me though. In the latin culture I fell in love with the music of Luis Miguel, Alejandro Sanz and many others.I actually got to do make up for latin artists at the 2006 Latin Grammy Awards. It was a thrill of a life time.

Something I will never forget. Then of course I went through my love of Indian music. Channel 18 every Saturday morning. Watching the Ballywood dancers jumping and dancing through each number with a valiant fever. It seemed that the whole country was in those music videos. Who was watching the store? Tee hee. My own personal tidbit. So now i've gone to the Korean vibe. And what a beautiful journey it is. Okay. Enough babbbling. Time for another one of my wonderful artists.

HIYORI LEE "U go girl" Janet. J.Lo. and Britney times 20. She may not have the choreography of these talented artists. But what she does have Is an energy that defies logic. Her face is sheer beauty. Her simple moves are sensual magic. And she has a presence that recalls old MGM musicals..( If you're too young to know the reference, then look it up). To be fake eyelashes and lipstick on this girl's face would be an honor!

The premise: Plain girl becomes Glam girl. Hiyori can never be plain. The song is catchy, hot, and makes you wanna' dance. And it doesn't hurt that her back updancers are HOT and HELLA' TALENTED!!!

Styling: HOT!!! Glam Squad: TOP NOTCH!! Overall: PERFECTION!!

Out of 5 stars * * * * * *Yeh. I gave it a six! I'm a sucker for beauty!!

P.S. - I think the sale of suckers might go up!

BIG BANG IS BANGIN"!!

01/10/2010

Today I'm stepping back to the beginning where I first found out about the Korean music video.First of all if it hadn't been for this thing called a converter box I never would have known there were so many asians on television. And I don't mean any disrespect in any way. I just didn't know. I was flipping through the channels (the 40's) and suddenly I saw this group of young guys just wearing out this tune. It was the group BIG BANG!!!

My fav' group right now!! Cute. Sexy. Personality plus with great vocals and choreography!! All the close up solos show great personality and pizaaz. But the stand out is a Young man by the name of Tae Yang! (the guy in the oversize baseball cap.) He steals the spotlight with his spunky ghetto style and hot smooth moves! And the hot hip thrusts are killer! My phrase for this type of asian performer is "Chin Chin Negro"! That's a term relegated to an asian with the moves of a brotha'. The real term is "Chin Chin N***a! But we must be politically correct. The styling and the sets are outrageously excellent! KIMCHI AND KUDOS!!!

[MV/ 1080p HD] MC Sniper (스나이퍼) ft Cho Min Ah (조민아) - Magic Castle (마법의 성)

M.C.SNIPER IS RIGHT ON TARGET!

01/09/2010

Okay. Even though I have heard a lot of great korean artists I was happily surprised by an artist by the name of "M.C. SNIPER". His real name: Kim Jung Yoo. The song: 'Magic Castle"! If he were a real sniper his aim would be right on target .As is this tune. The translation I've been told deals with the growth of a man's love for a woman. The thing that inspired me most about this video was the full orchestra. I was playing in orchestras quite awhile when I was younger. So therefore I have a great love for full orchestrations and lush strings. And an arrangement that sounds like it could accompany an academy award winning movie. To relate this to my brown roots I would have to semi compare it to LIL WAYNE'S "Comfortable". What possessed my soul though was the MC SNIPER conducting the orchestra. That visual along with the grand scale orchestra and simple love storyline just took my breath away. MC SNIPER though tough, took a chance and showed a soft side that was manly yet touching. MC SNIPER. Thank you for taking a tough stand for love! Especially in front of an orchestra!

TAE YANG YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Tae Yang has released an impressive solo cd this month. The first single is a hot little tune called "I Need A Girl". He shows a beautiful yet strong force of nature. Even though we know he can dance he chooses in this vid to move in a slower, sexier, sensual manner!. The vocals match most R & B singers but his Smile is UNMATCHABLE! Tae Yang! Baby! I hope you wear it out in the states!

most things in this world. I have discovered "KOREAN POP"!! Well. Of course I didn't per se discover it but I have found a new and wonderful new outlet for my whirling creative and talented mind.

I am an african amercican, brown, negro man! I love being one and would never change that. But I've always loved to explore other cultures, other customs, other talents!

The objective of this blog is to give a glimpse of what I feel about the Korean culture and talent. I will be reviewing Korean vids and giving opinions on certain things that is going on in that country.No. I am not an expert on Korea, I will be learning as you are learning. But I can give a critique on a music video. I am a make up artist and have worked in the industry for a bit. I have danced. I used to have a 12 "0" Clock kick. But one day that kick went down to 9:45. So my creative outlet had to move on.

You may not agree with my picks or my critiques, but that's why it's called "growth". My choices of asian stars will go from RAIN to TAE YANG. BIG BANG to THE WONDERGIRLS. SHINEE to SUPERJUNIOR. And one of my favs!!! "WHEESUNG"!!! There's a wide variety of artists to comment on and love.

I welcome you to this wonderful world I have discovered and from this brown man's perspective I hope you learn to embrace and love something that might be a little bit different from your daily lives or comfort zone. Before I go on though I must first give credit to the people that gave their interest and support when some people just laughed in my face and blew off my interest in this matter. The first person I would like to thank is Demion. A korean man with a smile of gold and a character of stubbornness and strength. He works at a place where I get fried fish. Always pleasant and always kind. He has an accent that he hates and he thinks his english is bad but yet I can always understand him and more importantly I actually care about what he has to say. And by the way, his english is good. I'm proud of him. I took a chance and after first asking his cultural background I started a conversation about Korean music. He of course was in disbelief, but when I started rattling off names of artists I suddenly had this" korean cred." It was cool. I now had a korean music ally. Demion will always be remembered as the first person who gave me a mix korean pop music cd. He gave it from his own collection and later he had the heart to actually make me a second new one. Which featured songs from 2PM, Girl's Generation and others. Since I was still "Ol' School" at the time I wanted to know where to buy the cd's. He gladly schooled me and I learned about the world of music downloads. "New School" here I come. Demion! Thank you! The second person I would like to Thank is Dr. Huynh (dear God I hope I spelled it right) Not only was this a kind and efficient soul when I was hospitalized. (just to end speculation, I had a mini stroke) He took the time and interest to listen to me about my blog. About how I felt about Korea. He never once made me feel like I was boring him and his interest helped fuel my need to write from my hospital bed. While I worked on getting my left side physically back in shape. I kept my mind sharp by writing four reviews of the songs and videos that I knew by heart. I then asked the Dr.to read them and give me his critique. I saw him the next day during a routine follow up and he brought up the fact that he loved everything that I had written. And he did something that really blew me away.He actually quoted a line from one of my reviews. He called it clever and he understood the reference I had used. I was "Over the Moon". Dr. Huynh. Thank You! And the third and most important person, is my girl Vonnie. 'Hairstylist to the stars and the world at large". This girl has been a source of strengh to me for quite awhile. I first met her on a photoshoot we did in the an apartment in Inglewood. She did hair. I did make up. It wasn't love at first sight. It was love later at sight. I remember seeing my first korean video and calling her up. I put the phone up to the T.V. and she said " Baby. What was that?" She loved it. It wasn't just the music she loved. It was also my enthusiasm and the smile she could see over the phone from my sheer excitement from this genre that I had just discovered. Vonnie Ray! You my girl. You kept pushing me to do this and I finally fell into it. I "THANK YOU" from the bottom of my heart! Enough of me bowing down and thanking my muses..............

I now introduce you to the "BROWN RICE PAPER PROFILES"!!!
